Sonic Vs Metal

Final for Animation 101 Class

One of my favorite pieces of animation is the intro to the game Sonic CD. If you haven't seen it, please, treat yourself.

So it's no surprise that for my final project I tried to emulate that. It was supposed to only be 10-20 seconds, but I pushed myself into the 40s for this one. I'm happy I did it but I wonder if I would've had a stronger project if I gave up a little on the vision to up the quality.

The two big hassle for his project was filling the shoes of the original animation and using 3D models for the backgrounds.

The latter was a pain because, at the time, I didn't have much familiarity with Blender so setting up shots and rendering them as PNGs was a huge pain.

The former was natural as I'm a student going up against veterans. But I wanted to be like them so bad! Every time I went through that intro frame by frame I was blown away with the love you can feel in every drawing.

As with a lot of projects I want to come back to this when I've grown considerably. I want to draw this with the understand of 3D space and speed that the original intro has.
