Dumb Robot

Dumb Robot: A Stop Motion Project

At some point every animator has to learn stop motion animation is HARD. Especially without the proper equipment!

Getting a model, setting up the set, and gooooooooood lining everything up for each frame. It's tedious and half the pain comes from kicking yourself in the rear for messing something up and needing double the time to fix it.

But it's also incredibly rewarding and fun once you get into it. Sure I ground my teeth into dust on the first few test walk cycles with my little robot model, but once I got into it? Man! It's like solving a little puzzle for each frame as you try to imagine how this robot will take its next step. How would it distribute weight, what natural forces must it obey, and how can I show as much emotion as I can in each frame?

I can see why people dedicated to the craft wouldn't leave it for anything. I'd understand them more if I had some rigs and a proper camera setup though...
