Snakes in the Jungle

Final Project for Illustration Class

When given the chance to make anything for a final project I always default to flexing my comic muscles. I think doing so trains every storytelling skill. Writing, cinematography, and draftsmanship. So for my illustration final, I wanted to draw the first interaction between two fighters since, at the time, I hadn't done so in a while. I believe it's always good to measure yourself and push yourself often.

For this comic my main goal was to get more comfortable with having backgrounds, see if I could show off two interesting fighting styles and personalities, and create intrigue for how the fight was going to go as soon as possible.

Kind of like a wrestling match when I write it out.

I think I reached each of my goals but along the way found more things I wanted to work on. I didn't skimp on backgrounds but found I still have a long way to go as I'm still uncomfortable with fine details and perspective. I think I showed off each characters' style but my poses and panels were only satisfactory, I wanted the characters to dominate the page and the reader's mind. And I think I ended the fight in a way where it'd be fun to imagine how these two would fight but I also wish the story had a bit more meat and the other two lacking attributes were up to snuff.

At the time of writing, I think this comic is about two years old. It may be time to redraw it and measure myself again.
